Fort Worth police launch 90-day speeding crackdown on dangerous highways

Overnight enforcement will target the 820 corridor and Interstate 30 as officials work to reduce serious and fatal crashes.

Drivers heading into or out of Fort Worth should expect to see more law enforcement on the roads. Officers are launching a 90-day traffic enforcement effort focused on reducing speeding and improving safety. NBC 5’s Shannon Miller explains where officers are expected to be watching for speeders and what drivers need to know.

Fort Worth police will increase patrols beginning Saturday, Aug. 1, as part of a 90-day effort to crack down on speeding along some of the city's most dangerous roadways.

The increased enforcement will focus on the Loop 820 corridor and Interstate 30 during overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Police said the goal is to reduce dangerous speeding and aggressive driving while maintaining a visible presence on the roads.

“This partnership that we have is also gonna allow us to do it outside of normal hours when people would be thinking, they’re okay. There’s no police around. But when we’re out there during these specific times, they’re gonna see some enforcement,” Calzada said.

According to TxDOT, Tarrant County recorded more than 144,000 crashes between 2020 and 2024. Nearly 1,000 of those crashes were fatal, while another 4,300 resulted in serious injuries.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments said speeding accounted for 34% of serious and fatal crashes on area highways in 2025. At the same time, data shows highway fatalities have declined by about 15% over the past couple of years.
