In the US situation where most teams are not the primary tenant of the venue, I guess it makes sense to play a different season than other leagues.
They've stated publicly they won't revisit the calendar before 2030, so if it happens it won't be soon. I think being offset from MLS is a benefit for NWSL since so many clubs share a stadium, and there's been some discussion in the WSL of switching to a summer calendar, so I think there's an outside chance soccer becomes like basketball and the men and women play during different seasons -- women in the summer and men in the winter.
