Researchers call this “participatory disinformation,” in which political leaders and influencers seed disinformation across platforms, and it’s then amplified and reproduced by ordinary users ...

This isn't limited to Canada as we know, it's rather an international phenomenon. A report by France's Institute for International and Strategic Affairs (IRIS) says that climate disinformation has become a “tool for destabilisation” as it identifies three state actors particularly active to spread climate-related disinformation and misinformation: the United States, Russia, and China.

Here is the English version: Climate Disinformation and Information Warfare: State Interference and Security Implications (pdf)

Here is the French Version: Désinformation climatique et guerre informationnelle : ingérences étatiques et enjeux sécuritaires (pdf)

The media outlet France24 published an article about it (in English).

I've never read a story linking wildfires to lasers. More misinformation?
