Reddit Sessions alternative?

Is it possible we could get some feature where people can livestream? I really miss Reddit Sessions but they were very clear it’s not being reinstated.

If it’s not possible or too expensive I apologize - I just thought I’d ask.

Not likely, as that would be a complex undertaking and require such a increase in compute resources that volunteer instances would be priced out and forced monetization features would be needed to keep the system alfoat.

Eek. Okay let's not. Sorry if I came across as entitled - I really don't know much about running a website.

That's all right mate. People don't realise the complexity of video and the resources it takes to mass stream or broadcast.

Better use Peertube for live streaming video. :-)

😁 Yes it does, believe me, I’ve published on it! 😛

Aha thanks for mentioning it. I did not know Peertube existed.

Welcome ! ;-)

Here are recordings of good concerts that were broadcast live on peertube : https://video.liveitlive.show/w/p/rmcDbHpUcgGAayjBWdrnnd

(We had a live chat as well, they built a really nice platform. 🥰)

wait, reddit used to have livestreaming? How did I not know this?

JJROKCZ@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

You would only see it in the official app or on the new Reddit site I think. I never saw it in Apollo or old Reddit, I saw them a few times because a co-worker used new Reddit for some reason and would occasionally have somebody playing ukulele live in his feed

Yes.

I realize it wasn't cost effective but I also feel it didn't get a fair shake.

They could have asked us to pay a subscription or something but no...they just reduced visibility and later completely got rid of it.

There's no youtube competitor because no one can afford it.
