'My body is your worst nightmare': Loving your body in the GLP-1 era

Whether you're living in a body that's large or small, the rise of GLP-1 advertising and its use as a weight-loss drug can give rise to big feelings and opinions.

Social media is awash with before-and-after weight-loss content and pushy marketing from companies selling the drugs, using advertising tactics labelled "unethical" by some health professionals.

At the same time, experts say there are genuine medical reasons to take GLP-1s for weight loss.

Weight is a complicated issue but any article that references Virgie Tovar should face rigorous critique.

Would you like to say more about this? I put up the article because the little I've read about GLP-1 drugs indicates there's a number of health problems. I am not personally involved in the issues the article raises and it would be great that someone who knows about them can comment so that perhaps some discussion ensues. Alternatively, if you have another article(s) you could post up that would be great.

The article seemed to be a bunch of anti-health body-positivity types telling people to love themselves when there's a very valid medical option to assist most people with the benefit of weight loss. It's bordering on antiscience territory. I'm fat and I know it's not healthy for me. I took GLP1s for seven months to kickstart my weightloss, they helped me lose 20kg. I don't want to put that 20kg through my hips and knees for the rest of my life, they're already sore.

I agree with you but as with almost every other issue, there are many views. If you do come across an article that better reflects your stance please post it. Weight is a really significant health-related topic that affects so many people.
