If they wanted a pay off at the end of season 1, tell him to make a 1 season show with the possibility of up to 3 seasons.
Tell him he has three seasons but cancel after two, and you're wasting all the buildup you told him he can take, right before he delivers a mind blowly payoff.
Studios need to commit, but the only ones willing to do that, are up and comers trying to land OG programming because they don't have to pay a competitor for it.
Netflix of all people should be able to wait for payoffs.
