Whereas:
Canadians have a fundamental interest in protecting children and other vulnerable persons from sexual exploitation and abuse
For the purpose of this petition, "vulnerable persons" includes children and other vulnerable persons as recognized under Canadian law, are at greater risk of sexual exploitation or abuse
The National Sex Offender Registry is accessible only to law enforcement, leaving communities with limited access to information that could improve public safety
Limited public access to information about individuals convicted of designated sexual offences against children and vulnerable persons could help Canadians make informed decisions while respecting the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
