Currently looking at getting a turntable to get into vinyl. I'm looking to spend no more than maybe $500 (can be persuaded more for a decent reason). Sound quality isn't super huge to me but I still can still tell some differences. I'm not sure where to start so hopefully someone can help.
So throw me some suggestions and hopefully I can find one I like!

Highly recommend checking the local used market - you can pick up a great bargain on a nice old Denon or Thorens direct drive turntable and cartridge in good condition. Otherwise Rega would be my recommendation.

Good thought. Seems there's a used electronics store right nearby that I can take a look at. Maybe they have a great deal.
A quick check of Craigslist didn't yield much, though I'm guessing most people don't use that as much as Facebook marketplace.

Check out Rega a UK based manufacturer, I have a P1 and a P6, both great decks. U can get a P1 with a built in phono stage if your amp doesn't have one.

I have a pro-ject turntable that I absolutely love but it might brake your budget. Remember to account and consider that you will probably need a RIAA preamp on many of the good turntables

You are in the exact same shoes I was in about 6 months ago. I see the post is 2 yrs by now, so you probably already got something, but I'll answer anyways because I feel like it and it might help someone else.
Honestly just get whatever old used player you can find that has the features you want.
The only must have features I felt I needed was just 33/45 RPM speeds and auto return. Other than that, buy a turntable from a somewhat reputable brand. I got a Pioneer. Not sure if it is a super high quality one, but it has been working great and I spent approximately 150 EUR/USD in my local currency.
If I still play records 2 years from now I will probably upgrade, but for now all I want to upgrade is a new stylus.

Assuming you have receiver with phono input and speakers already... Audio Technica AT-LP120x is great. You can pick up an Ortaphone Red cartridge for fantastic upgrade, or just spend the rest on records.
