A powerful earthquake struck Colombia, killing at least 26 people, according to authorities.

The U.S. Geological Survey measured the earthquake at 7.4 magnitude. The quake began at 7:34 a.m. local time (12:34 p.m. GMT), with its epicenter near the village of San José del Palmar, at a depth of approximately 96 kilometers.

The tremors were felt hundreds of kilometers away in the capital, Bogotá. Traffic lights and trees swayed as people fled their homes, and several buildings were evacuated.

The earthquake also disrupted services at several Colombian airports. At least 26 people have been reported killed.
