"Bumble decides to become tinder clone #2647264843862 following in the footsteps of literally every other dating site."

They are the same company

edit: I stand corrected. They are (still) not the same company

While Match Group owns a lot of dating apps (match.com, Tinder, Hinge, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish), Bumble is not one of them.

Though apparently Match did at one point try to buy Bumble.

Bumble is famously the only dating app that is not match group

they are not the same company.

It's match group isn't it... I tend to forget sometimes that in this world every company gets bought by some gigantic asshole company

It's been years since I was on dating apps but I'm hardly shocked. I got plenty of bumble matches and I'm pretty certain I never exchanged more than 5 messages on the app. The vast majority of women simply never sent a first message or the rare ones that did hit me with "hi" or "hey" which is honestly worse than having me initiate the conversation because I have to awkwardly respond and start a conversation. It's a fun idea in theory, but reality is a real slap in the face

Looks like they bumbled that one from the outset.

Skill issue

AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 24d

I mean the first messages were usually something like "Hey"

OldChicoAle@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 24d

Then use a different app? There's like a 100 of them.

Making the first move is a skill. Many women are not practiced in that skill, for various reasons. Anyone's early attempts at a skill will likely be awkward and ineffective.

Thus, many women are bad at first messages and find the experience unpleasant.

On top of that, many men are shit. Just absolute trash to talk to.

So not only are many women floundering with this new skill of "send a good first message", when they get responses it's often men responding badly.

So it makes sense they'd give up. They're not going to fight against all the social norms.
