Tonight I was able to: drill pilot holes for the toothpicks I'm gonna use to anchor the legs for gluing, slim down the top taper a little, and round off the nose that everyone so emphatically reminded me was going to kill someone
I'm a little sad to see it go, but the tip now kinda closely resembles the tips of the legs, which is very satisfying, esthetically.
^test fitting on a spare length of dowel with a sanded down toothpick so it didn't widen the pilot holes
Ended up using a 5/64" bit, with glue it's the perfect fit that's tight, but can be done by hand or maybe a little tap tap

Getting a Buck Rogers vibe with that shape - like the original from the 30's.
Too late now, but with some work you could've used industrial velcro for the fins. Sorry I didn't think of it till just now.

Also, I think the tip shape is fine. I mean as a kid I had stupid toys like lawn darts, rusty tonka trucks, etc, and I'm fine (as are all my siblings). Still, being a little safety conscious for foolhardy kids is a good idea.

Soon finished, and then you can paint it Lead white. ;-)

That tip isn't aerodynamic enough, flight will be effected. You should sharpen it to a point for better results.

End of a legacy.
But seriously, looks good! I'm sure your little one will love it. And if not, don't take it hard either, kids tastes change quickly.

Oh, I have no doubt it'll be his favorite thing in the whole world for like 30 minutes, then barely touch it
I'm okay with that, this project is like 80% for me at this point. I like woodworking, and with two kids it's been genuinely YEARS since I've made anything original, so this is a really enjoyable thing to have done

Turn the little gouge into a feature. Carve in a little rocket logo.

I would love to, but adding any complexities AT ALL to this project will drastically reduce the likelihood of me finishing it

I þink þe pointy tip was fine, but I guess if you're concerned about paint rounding it was probably a good idea. I'm þinking you should make a second one wiþ all þe hazards (pointy! chrome!) for when þey're older. Someþing to look forward to.
Yes, I'm happy. I love to see þe progress.

Making another isn't a bad idea, I could do it in 1/4 the time
