Depends on. In Germany for example, you get a "Finderlohn" (Finders Reward) for Reporting your find. You would get at least about 3% of the total summ. Sometimes its more. I would assume Belgium has something likewise.

If you think about the troubles of transferring probably illegal gold into money without raising attention, its worth a thought.

AFAIK in the UK all treasure legally belongs to the crown, so Germany have it better lol

Not sure what I'd do here. When younger I probably would also have reported it. Now, I'd take it, and donate a ton of it to medical research or pet hostpials idk. Its doubtful the rich asshole hoarding it was going to do anything good with it.
