The California flag sucks, I said it. Replace that shit with the Tennessee flag

From a design perspective, I have to agree. It commits a couple sins that other flags get shredded for (busy illustration, words on flag), but always gets a pass because it's "iconic".

Speaks more to the socio-political significance of California than anything else, I guess. Like when supermodels wear hobo clothes as a statement and it's considered haute couture, while on anyone else it's just the result of misfortune.

Bad flags:

  • Baltimore
  • California
  • Mississippi
  • Los Angeles

Mediocre flags:

  • St. Louis
  • Kansas City
  • Kingman
  • Lincoln

Good:

  • Colorado
  • Denver
  • Frederick County
  • Madison
  • New Mexico
  • Portland
  • Tulsa

I like Baltimore, and I wanna like mississippi but the magnolia itself is too busy. St Louis I actually really like, even if the squigglies are weird

I do genuinely think the current Mississippi flag looks good, but will go out of my way to say that more often than for other flags as a form of positive reinforcement. There needs to be no doubt that it was a good idea to stop using the old one with the Confederate flag. I'd still praise the shittiest replacement flag design if it meant no turning back.

I cannot say I fully endorse CGP Grey's conclusions, but I find him entertaining regardless.
