The ACTU is pushing the government to give all renters access to a minimum two-year lease.
It also wants to increase the rate of public housing being built from one in 50 to one in 10 new homes.
The above and other intelligent proposals outlined in the article sound great but will the govt take them up?

It's good they're pushing, but it's not enough! Other countries do 10-year leases. Australian renters really are treated like dirt.

Agreed but treated even worse than dirt are the large number of people we have in this rich country that don't even have a stable roof over their heads. That's why the proposal for much more public housing is so important.

Yeah, let's push small landlords out of business and let housing be controlled by a couple of big corps. So renters can't even squawk, or they end up on a blacklist and are not able to rent again ever.
The government needs to support small landlords, not try to bankrupt them.

Instead of chopping it up and getting no rental income for significant periods therefore bringing in less than ten years of rent. Less income than a lease agreeing to ten years of continuous tenancy and rental income.
I asked you exactly how. How does a signed ten year lease, committing to ten years of steady rental income to the business, push a landlord out of business? You can even continue to raise the rent during those years!

This just means they'll put the rent up by twice as much when renewing the lease.
