Although you cannot see it here, the short eared owl up above had a vole in its talons. The bottom owl thought it easier to steal than to hunt. However, in the end, the thief failed.

Whether it's against other SEOs, since they're one of the few owls that will begrudgingly hunt side by side, or the northern harriers whose hunting time and style overlaps, I love these aerial battle photos and would love to witness it in person someday.
And the Shorties' clapping dive bombs for their courtship ritual as well!

Yes, this may have just been attempted payback for a previous hunt!
That owl could be the guy that never chips in their fair share or shorts the tip when they go out and they're tired of his shenanigans.
