In the US there was a popular programming method supposedly used by software developers in the late 2000s - early 2010s. At the very least all the programming and software dev teachers of the time that I encountered thought it was the best shit ever.
It was called “pair programming”. Two people at one computer. One person typing, the other proofreading/reviewing it in real time while both brainstormed/collaborated on the design. It was god awful, especially in a school/university setting.
Everyone had different typing speeds, different backgrounds, etc and it was small scale forced group work which always sucks unless you’ve already somehow figured out who you work well with from the start.
They couldn’t even pony up the cash to adequately arm the non-typist to troubleshoot issues with their partner or the machine. Most of us didn’t have enough money for a pistol so we had to use baseball bats, scraps of wood, or large rocks. Spent more time cleaning up the bloodstains than learning.

i like how the chair placement implies the computer manages itself, while the people on the chairs man the devices on the sides.

they probably did this on purpose, so you guys wouldn't complain about your hot ai programming partners.
"remember how bad you had it? be glad you have this now!"

Before the computer era, there were rooms with rows of desks, each with a type writer. Same idea, different noise.
Often the desk of the manager was on a pedestal.
