I am late to this party but want to say, I agree!!
I finally watched the live action this year. Gave me enough info into the characters and world to wanted to look further into it.
How? How did I miss this series for sooo long!!! I have seen so much adjacent to it yet somehow was oblivious to it. I am now nearing episode 600! Slowly but surely catching up.
Just got through Ivankov and the whole marine fight. Kinda glad I did, because if I was just coming to it, I'd be bawling my eyes out trying to watch now that Tim Curry passed.

Seems like a good time for a remake, the og animation is way too old and too slow for people to seat through thousand of it just to catch up.
Inb4 "why not just watch the live action one" i for one can't take most live action series, i'd rather reread the manga.
