Account looks diferent from diferent instances.

Hello, I am playing around with Pixelfed to get a better ubderstanding and one thing I have observed is the diference how accounts are presented depending on which server I am currently observing from. Example:

On my account on Pixelfed.social I see 9 posts on an account from Gram.social.

On my account on Gram.social i see over 60 posts on the same account on gram.social.

Any ideas wht the view is so different? The servers should federste but the way it is presented is so diferent on some accounts. Pictures to clarify.

An instance will only display the posts that it knows about, it won't backfill all of the posts from before someone first subscribed to it. However some instances have tools that let you do that on demand (I'm not familiar with them unfortunately).

You can manually federate over individual posts by pasting them in the search bar of the instance that is missing them.

Thanks a lot! I will look into this as it is a bit unfamiliar and phone user!

How about accounts that does not show up?

No problem!

It's the same idea for users. For example, if you wanted to follow name@example.com, but you can't find them with the search, you can paste this link into the search bar: https://example.com/name

Just note that the account might look empty at first, but you can manually backfill the old posts if you wanted to (the earlier discussion)

Thanks a lot for all the help!

So to help other even less tech-savy friends to explain the federation, is it that posts and accounts made before the federation before the account or post was done will not display initially, only after the two servers "connect"?

Pretty much, and this is likely done to prevent a new server from being overwhelmed by all of the content that has ever been posted.

For less tech-savy friends, I might recommend these guides because they have visuals for how the network works:
