"Here, have this new building that adds almost negligible jobs to the local economy, noisy if you live close by, may cause major power outages & you can't shut it off. Also, you may run out of drinking water / have your local water source polluted thanks to said building"

But think of the kickbacks we get! I bet the mayor got a butt load of money. He'll be sharing that cash awith the residents aaaaaaany day now...

I guess the NIMBYism is probably a lot of this? It says "in their area".

How many would support the oligarchs building things that will be built "somewhere else" and as long as it only steals other people's jobs, I wonder?

Which is why the oligarchs always make sure their corporate media runs articles about how stuff like this disproportionally affects minorities, to make it seem like a problem of the others and not them.

I doubt they are broadcasting that most (67%) are planned in rural areas, so the politics of that may become very interesting, quickly. Er, I should say even more interesting, I guess.

The u-turn on this has been a pretty wild ride, that's for sure.

Also, I think it's why fElon keeps talking about putting "compute" 🙄 into space.

People like him utterly disdain populism (the real kind, not the fascist facsimile) and communities fighting back and so putting these things in space would put them entirely beyond the control of people being able to do anything about it, especially with a compliant administration like donnie's.

Good thing it's an idiotic idea that will never work

Satelite killers are in action now, in their infancy but it's going to heat up with the new world cold wars here.

I wonder if lasers could take some of them out just academically wonder.

Problem is that usually the majority needs to get something out of things like this for that to work properly, IE who cares if they demolished black neighborhoods to build the freeway we got a freeway of out of it. That's not happening with data centers, nobody gets anything out of them including the oligarchs since this shit is just a resource sink and one that may get them killed at this rate.

In the short term though - and that's usually how these people with the mind-virus known as "MBA Brain" think - there is massive amounts of money being made on this.

vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Fair enough, I just don't factor in short term unless the long term is accounted for. Maybe that's why I always assume these people are fucking stupid.

MBA Brain usually tends to prioritize next quarter's profits.
