“We have recognized from the beginning that America has changed, and that we will not return to our old relationship,” Carney, 61, said in a statement issued late Friday.

“Our government understood, before many, that America is altering all its trade relationships. Putting tariffs on its closest allies and charging for access to its vast market. We have worked in that context.

“Canada will match those tariffs dollar for dollar to protect our workers and businesses,” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a statement.

This response demonstrates how to stand up to a bully. Moreover, Prime Minister Carney is a true statesman.

Carney is a politician and should not be trusted like any politician.

The Americans have done generational damage to the relationship we once had. I’m 55 and will never forgive Americans, whilst there are some good people still in the U.S. the majority are a write off. I’m not the only one that feels this way, Americans have betrayed us and we won’t forget, nor forgive, we tend to hold grudges a very, very, long time.

I really hope the canadians will punish Trump and will buy more of their own stuff. The World needs to show Trump thet he can't do whatever he wants freely and that there are consequences for the USA.

We still come out ahead, because 1 USD > 1 CAD (at least for now).
