The Seattle Sounders FC are reportedly approaching a deal to acquire striker Dejan Joveljić from Sporting KC, a move that would break the drought of summer-transfer-window signings that has frustrated the fanbase for years. In order to finalize the deal, the Sounders must open up a Designated Player spot, something they may be able to do according to a report from Sounder at Heart’s Niko Moreno.

Rusnak hasn’t been having a great year, but I think he can still contribute at a level where extending him at a lower price point makes sense

There is an apparent path to Seattle opening up one of those spots, though, as Sounder at Heart's Niko Moreno reports that the club is trying to sign midfielder Albert Rusnák to an extension that would help do that. Extending the contract of Albert Rusnák or Pedro de la Vega has been pitched to open up one of these spots, and doing so with Rusnák keeps a solidly productive midfielder on the roster.
