I had this happen in my job, I always had admin rights on my PC as I run critical operations. AKA we make the money to pay the morons in IT. They gank my admin rights, I protest, I get rebuffed.
One night I needed to install a proprietary piece of software on my laptop for a customer. They were already installed but IT remotely uninstalled them as 3rd party.
Customers down, I tell them I can't help them as I can't install the software. Let me call the oncall IT potato and see what I can do. Of course they aren't used to 0200 phone calls and ignored.
I tell the customer my hands are tied and they will have to wait 6+ more hours down until IT wakes up from their slumber. These were barges on the Mississippi River. They had to halt ALL of them until they could get comm's back up. Millions of dollars and other barge companies had to halt ops because these barges are in the way.
Well that kinda a think hits the NTSB fast as its a disaster waiting to happen. I got a call from the VP of ops, explained my situation and I was on the phone w/ the VP of IS/IT and my VP in no time.
They never denied my admin rights or any of our team again. Eventually we split our network off theirs as they would get a new director/VP that wanted to start this BS all over again.
