On 24 August 2026 X Corp sent cease and desist letters to Nitter and its instances, demanding permanent takedown of the instances and the project's repository. The letter accuses the project of scraping and unlawful use of X's API.
Nitter.net is currently offline and development is paused while the developer seeks legal advice.
