This café in Ahmedabad runs on a ‘Pay It Forward’ model—your meal is a gift from someone who came before you

Seva Café in Ahmedabad has been open since 2006. The unique café operates on a ‘Pay It Forward’ concept. There is no bill at the end of your meal. A footnote on the menu reads: “Your meal was a gift from someone who came before you.” Pay it forward for someone who comes after. It has never closed. It has never asked anyone for money. It has never needed to.

That is amazing. It's things like these that give me very slight faith in humanity.

How does it even out with everyone having different orders? All the previous payments go into a pool and your bill is paid out of that? So what amount do you pay when you're done, the amount relative to what you got?

Hopefully this doesn't get too much attention, then a bunch of assholes would come to get a meal and not pay anything, just to be mean.

So everyone pays, but some random amount? Sounds shit. It's not a very meaningful "gift" either.
