I certainly didn't know my gender identity as a kid. I didn't even consider that I might be trans until I was an adult.

I don’t really understand what gender is or why I should identify with it. I’m glad that nobody ever asked me for my pronouns, because that’s an externally imposed thing from my POV, but nothing that I define. Also glad that I can often get away with describing my body. German doesn’t really distinguish sex and gender well. And English seems to use male/female not just for sex, but also for gender.

I don’t remember that I played with dolls or why I stopped doing so. I remember a fragment, that I must have known that I can’t just wear whatever I want, but not what I wanted to wear. I definitely never wanted to grow up, but that could just being me disliking change and responsibilities

In my experience, one's gender is less a concept to understand and more about what feels best. The labels are just ways to describe ourselves. Some find that common labels do a good job at capturing how they feel, while others feel like such labels are inadequate.

There's no need to be [insert gender] unless we get something out of it. I only realized I was a woman because I enjoyed almost everything that entailed, especially being viewed as one. I never would've learned without exploration, even if it was scary and uncomfortable.
