San Francisco turned a highway into a park. Some drivers are furious. Voters will have their say at the ballot box in November

Needs more trees and benches. They should deseal a greater proportion of the surface before november.

You’ll have your trees in 50-100 years.

100%. a good portion of my favorite memories of SF are when i did not own a car.

That park is lovely. What an absolute waste of time. A few angry people get this on the ballot, and it keeps getting defeated.

I lived on that street for years, as in my address was on Great Highway, and I loved it when the highway would close due to sand drifting over the road. Sure, cars flowed into the neighborhoods and drove like assholes, but for me, I loved the closed highway. I have so many photos, videos, and great memories from those days.

I used to take my 2 year old daughter out on the highway to scoot and kick the ball around.

I know a lot of folks in that neighborhood probably hate the overflowing traffic, and I can see why. On weekends when the upper highway was closed traffic on my street (lower great highway) was awful, mostly because impatient drivers are assholes, but IMHO it was worth it for having the highway closed to cars and open to people.

Hey I think we should go back to wiping our asses with leaves. Let's have a vote on that.
