Food emissions are the emissions associated with producing the foods people eat.

The bulk of those emissions are associated with land use change, and in the case of most meats, growing the food needed to feed the animals that later get eaten.

This also includes things like emissions from wasted food decomposing, animal emissions, fertilizer and water production, and to a much lesser degree, the transportation, storage, and cooking of the food.

Certain foods have greater impacts, and the choices consumers make drive those upstream impacts.
