I write this a lot, but it remains true: conservatives don't see it as hypocrisy because their only rule is being upheld. In-groups good, out-groups bad.
If Ron had stolen money from Trump, maybe then they would be upset.
The money was originally from part of a 67 million settlement. A giant healthcare company stole a ton of money from Medicaid and got a slap on the wrist. Rather than use the settlement to pay for medical care for the poor, Republican governor diverted some to his wife's religious charity. The charity then diverted the money to PACs used to kill a legalize marijuana amendment. Guess who was in charge of that PAC? It's Florida's current attorney general. A Florida judge ruled the funds were "misappropriated" but no one will be charged (big shocker). The Republicans are upset t grand jury stuff was leaked (the only crime).The swamp is deep in Florida. This is an example of false equivalence, whataboutism and tribalism.
False equivalence:
Desantis is an elected republican politician. The Minnesota fraud was commited by unelected citizens.
Desantis hasn't faced any consequences yet for his corruption. Several perpetrators of the Minnesota fraud are being prosecuted.
Whataboutism:
A republican commits corrupt acts and the argument used to defend it isn't related to that corruption case at all, instead it's "what about the DNC".
Tribalism:
Corruption by people from my tribe (republicans) is fine and people outside my tribe aren't allowed to call out crimes committed by people from my tribe. The moral point of view would have been that corruption is unacceptable irrespective of party affiliation.
