It's really hard seeing all those accidents and people breaking their bones. And I kinda feel that this massive amount of accidents this year are not really accidents, but a systematic issue with road cycling as a competitive sport. There are ways to make road cycling more safe and to prevent this. The UCI really has to think about how to make this sport safer
I'm not sure how can one make it safer, though. I mean I wouldn't survive 15 minutes riding in the middle of the group. And it seems that with higher speeds, nor can pros anymore.
And if you look at Pogačar's accident, there was hardly any way to prevent it. Perhaps if he held handlebars really firm he might have avoided the crash, but who knows.
And I wholeheartedly agree that these bone breaking crashes are hard to watch and really bad for the sport in general.
Me neither, but I'm also not the expert in road cycling security. Maybe there's some kind of protective clothing that might help. We introduced helmets and mountain bikers have their own safety gear we might adopt. Or maybe the UCI needs to think about letting those riders ride in those densly packed pelotons where one crash or error leads to mass crashes. Or maybe think about how those cars and motorcycles are driving around the peloton or where they are going. Or speed limits for some areas?

Yea that’s a tough one. And then half of the peloton goes down in the last stretch.
These flat, sprint finishes are getting more and more dangerous for the riders.
