But damn I had been sleeping on The Twilight Sad's new stuff. Not heard that cover before. And I love me some Twilight sad. Their old album artwork always stood out to me, and kind of told a story in a Serial fashion. Definitely worth checking out.

LOL yes he's done the number of really good out of geanera covers like this. I remember the first time I heard this I was like the safety dance? That's kind of an odd follow-up to the other things I've been posting but then when I realized who it was and heard the lyrics I was floored. Yes the original was a favorite when I was young. It's anti-establishment Anarchist energy still resonates today.

Oh yeah Apoptygma Berserk is awesome, they have a killer cover of Smashing Pumpkin's "Disarm". The mix is more dancy but it's as good as the original imho:

Jxl is goated. Not very gothy in general. Much more breakbeat and perhaps industrial. I remember waiting to get the Saturday teenage kick album as soon as it was released way back when. He certainly can slay on a remix. The version he did have a little less conversation is goated as well. Honestly genre bending covers are some of my favorite.
The Brains version of Enjoy the Silence hits that spot. Like Dave Ghan on meth with a stand up bass.

Yes when I was deciding to go with a service. It was the only one that had the things I wanted the most. One artist in particular Pandora had nothing on. While Spotify I think had one album at best. The nice thing about YouTube music. Is that they have most of that. Plus all the content ever uploaded to YouTube as well. You can find some real deep cut stuff that would never show up on the others. Classic 1980s Japanese postpunk? Yes.

I get so much country out here I tend to avoid it heh. And not the good stuff. Kenny, Dolly, Johnny, Kenny, Hank Sr, Willie etc. The mass produced jingoistic self aggrandizing kind. This isn't that 🙂
The ones like Johnny or even Kenny are respected for their range and talent. Kenny wasn't afraid to sing a song written by a disco Beegee written for a deceased R&B artist. Dolly too. And of course Johnny and Trent. They were artists and not just a generic product.

Yeah Merle is good. I am familiar in passing with the burrito brothers. And who the monkeey? Honestly I had not really looked into anything he did after that. Though I know he did have a career. Tiamat's cover of The Stones Sympathy For The Devil is another solid cover. Though to be fair. The Stones were 100% proto goth so they made it easy. I can think of several covers of shelter. And could do an hour or more of just covers of paint it black.
