To turn on him establishment Democrats would have had to have had any other stance regarding him. Unfortunately most are just learning about him and assume the stupidest possible stance.
They're told he took the stupidest possible stance by a lobbyist and just took it as fact to keep some donors happy. Most of the people commenting on him are empty suits who would have no positions at all if they could avoid it. It just happens to be that that sort of person is incredibly easy to corrupt by wealthy interests.
Yep. I have my issues with piker. But you aren't wrong. He may be too eager to glaze auth left groups. But it tends to come from a good place I think. And more often than not, he stands for the right things unlike the establishment.
I feel like this whole article is written as if they got an interview with Hasan Piker, but they're posing his response stream content to others as if they're comments to the story. They also weirdly claim he's worried about his stream revenue going down, when he's never indicated this at all, just that it might.
This is just another example of Democrats losing initiative and being lead on a leash by Republican talking points.
There is no reason for Democrats to defend Piker, he isn't running for anything. Even if he was, the Republicans are faking being mad at a lie they told themselfs.
If Democrats want to start talking about any of the many important things that they might need to talk to voters about, they need to pick their battles better and understand what these bad faith traps looks like.
Ps: this is all assuming the establishment Democrats are themselves acting in good faith and not collaborating in an attemp to kill progressive grassroots movements.
Also, on an unrelated and rather miscellaneous note - after seeing pics of Piker and El-Sayed, I learned that the dude is over 6 feet tall! For some reason, even though I've seen his stream before, I thought he was extremely short. When I first saw the pic, I searched for a few more sources of the same meeting of those two, because I thought it might be AI or something.
Anyway, not that it really matters.
But I guess doing things via cam can be deceiving. I had similar experience with two co-workers that I only sometimes saw on camera and mostly knew them by their Teams/Slack pics/avatars or whatever. When I met in-person, at two separate times, I came up on them in the hallway, without warning and had to suppress a double-take because both of them were maybe 5.5 feet or shorter...again, not that it matters, just...unexpected.

Also, I don't think he really cares what the (establishment) Democrats think. If anything, this only raises his profile by a lot.
