It's not unless you're on the radical right, energy independence and protecting your country from both foreign influence as well as undesired (climate) change might just be some of the most conservative things possible. It's literally in the name.
This is just a bad superficial attempt at discrediting some politician. And perhaps that outlet, don't know that one though.
