Edit: a phrase commonly used by parents to deter kids from watching too much tv, in Norway. Was it used in other countries too?

That's a funny way to put it. I've always heard (in the US) "it'll hurt your eyes" in more general terms.

We were told sitting too close was bad for our eyes. Then they gave us all computers with crts to sit in front of.

That one was common in my household, too, and then I got an Amiga with a 13(?) inch crt and sat closer than ever before.

My dad couldn't understand the appeal and I still remember him bursting into my room, while I was playing pinball dreams, saying something like "look at the lovely weather! You need to spend some time outdoors, too!"
