Donald Trump was never in their corner, and therefore cannot abandon them.
The feelings of abandonment stem from them being too stupid to understand the above.

Ya that line of thinking only leads to low voter turnout, which always favors republicans.
Therefore, the more persuasive you are with your slant, the greater your value to the GOP.

I'll believe it when I see it. Republican voters have shown a willingness to shoot themselves in the foot over and over again, if the recoil can smack someone they hate in the face at the same time.

I mean, it's a fact that his policies are hurting rural voters (in addition to every other non-pedophile in the country), but whether enough people act on that is up in the air.

My point is that most of his voters don't care if they are being hurt by his policies, as long as they perceive that immigrants (or gays, or feminists, or socialists) are getting more hurt.
