Was it walnut stain? That looks great on pine boards. Good job

These were my materials of choice! Stuck to all oil based, wipe on. Went against Watco advice and did tiny bits of sanding between coats. Especially the first coat to smooth any raised fibers.

ETA: and thank you!

Nice. Brushing on? Give us the deets, brother.

It's a brush on dark walnut stain, I plan on doing satin polyurethane over the top for an added layer of protection. Everything but the trim around the frame is made out of sheathing ply and framing lumber that I hand sanded, the frame is some nice cedar that I got a good deal on. You can't really see it in this pic, but the uprights are two pieces of the same ply glued together so they have that striped edge look. I freehanded the whole thing as all I have tools wise is a Walmart brand circular saw and drill.

Once I'm done with the stain and finish, I have Masonite that will lay on the frame for the surface and the space between the uprights will double as shelves for small books and neat junk. Also, the left side armrest is longer than the right so it's inline with the back of an unpictured smaller section to make an L shape.

For the cushions I've cut down a memory foam mattress into 12 3'x3'x6" slabs and I'll be using some gaudy curtains my spouse found to make covers. It's set up so that one cushion stands upright against the back and another lays flat on the seat to hold it in place.

Whole project cost about $300 and will seat 6 people without touching so now my spouse and I can finally lay out comfortably.
