I imagine there are 3d printed case replacements that can take the internals and snap together bada-bing!

There's at least one! I sense I'll probably be printing one of those in the relatively near future.

In the case of NDS consoles, replacing the affected shell with a third-party replacement is still a viable option today

With DS consoles the hinge will make that quite complex unfortunately. But there are replacement shells.

Putting on a new top screen SUCKS though.

Damn! My NDS is one of those original ones.

Those were horrible consoles
