Volcano sponges in Antarctica measured to be 6,000 to 40,000 years old, making them the longest-living known Earth animal

Some scientists reckon the oldest Antarctic sponges can't be more than 15,000 years old due to sea level fluctuations.

This species of sponge has never been recorded to settle or grow.
