Because my belief is: we don’t actually relate to being the heroic lead character in these comics. Although we enjoy reading about Batman and Wonder Woman and apparently Hal Jordan, we don’t actually read them and see them as surrogates for our own interests. It’s the side-characters, the quiet background features like Olapet and Chaselon, who actually give us something to relate to. And the fact they look like weird and incomprehensible aliens makes them even more relatable for readers.
The author of this article makes a lot of assumptions of Green Lantern readers. He believes so firmly that nobody cares for the hero of those comics that he starts speaking for all Green Lantern readers throughout the article while promoting the alien "freaks" of the Green Lantern Corps.
