Look How Calm She Is.....

Red boobook, subspecies Lurida in mountainous rainforest in Wooroonooran NP. It's taken me several visits to find one of these beauties.

Boobook is an onomatopoeic name from the sounds they make. If you use some imagination, it's kinda there.

There are somewhere around 36-40 species (they keep getting reclassified into new species as we learn more about their distinctions).
