The worst part is when the top image was broadcast, people said that it was unrealistic and it would never get that hot, and now here we are, 24 years before the predicted time we're already surpassing all the predictions (I say prediction very loosely because I don't think there were any studies done)

Not all of the predictions.
We're surpassing the conservative predictions. Even the 'bad' predictions in things like the IPCC reports are relatively conservative and don't take into account feedback loops.

I live in France and I do remember watching this image being broadcast, and yes it felt completely unrealistic at the time, nothing seemed to point in this direction, but yet here we are.

Last time I checked, if you assume 3.5C global warming, the numbers are likely to reach 50C by 2050.
That'd be a nice little last number synchronicity for when I sweat myself to death on the upstairs loo.

Australian here: Oh, hello, back there in the past!
Australia’s highest temperature last summer (December 2025 - February 2026) was 50.0°C, recorded in South Australia at both:
Andamooka — January 29, 2026 Port Augusta — January 30, 2026
Port Augusta’s reading was described as the farthest south that an official 50°C temperature had been recorded in Australia.
And we're heading into summer again! Whee!

Aside from the coasts, there aren’t a lot of features on that map. Like if you did a square crop, removing the coasts and borders, it would not be immediately apparent.
