inb4 the influx of "not all parents are irresponsible/iT's JuSt ThE PoOrS" comments from the parents who will inevitably find this and feel compelled to preach -- we know. I'm sure you specifically are gold star parents who extensively thought about how you would give your kids good and stable lives before you had them. But there are millions of others who didn't and whose kids are growing up into terribly damaged and traumatized adults who may well perpetuate the cycle of generational trauma.

I'm not going into the bad parents aspect but I doubt this is a "generational trend", you are just entering the stage of life where a lot of people want that. I'm guessing you are between early/mid twenties to mid thirties? That's when people mostly have babies. It's not a "generation" it's just where you and who you surround yourself with are in your/their life progress.
You may not want kids, and that's ok. Some people do especially in that age range.

The trend isn't having kids.
The trend is having kids so you can post the baby shower to social media for attention and validation from strangers.
That is generational, as social media has not existed untill quite recently in human history.
The OP pic is specifically describing people who are simply generating content for social media where that content is 'I had a baby!'
You entirely missed the point, the operative concept, the behavior being called out.

A generation trend practiced by checks notes every generation in human history.

The trend isn't simply having children.
The trend is putting absolutely no forethought into having children, and doing so to get attention and validation from strangers on the internet.
That's what makes it a trend, a trend being something common/popular on the net, on social media.
The concept here is that the narcissism amplifier that is social media promotes more people having kids simply so they can get views and the second hand admiration of strangers... which then produces traumatized children who will learn and internalize the narcissistic abuse patterns of their parents as normal.
Every generation in human history has not had to deal with the proliferation of black mirrors, and hyperoverstimulation and mass parasocialization.

Setting aside how that's not what the OP says, do you... uh... have evidence for that?

That is what it says, learn how to read.
For evidence, go onto corpo social media.

This tweet is almost 8 years old trying to talk about a "trend" that pretty provably never existed.

Or rather existed forever

Especially when the gender reveal sparks fire disaster.

Now that is a trend, and one that I really hope does not last.

Sauce please; I've seen no stats that justify this take. (and if you're being told this reason by your parenting friends, consider that this might be something they feel obligated to tell you)

Someone we know had a baby and is constantly posting the baby all over instagram and such. Always posting those "happy family" stuff.
One of my friends tried to convince me that was all intentional to get pregnant at 20 lol.
Yea I bet the guy went "hmm I work a shit job, have no home and I'm basically still in school, I think I want a baby"
Delusional

the birth rate has been decreasing generation after generation so at least this awful trend is dying out
And yes , I do agree that many people have followed along with this idea of just having a child with very little forethought as to how to psychologically and financially care for them... but people like this are becoming less common cause more and more people are having less sex overall.

Hit n miss. Most ppl i know dont do soc media. Then there's our first midwive saying we should bring the child to commercial advertisement photoshoots to make cash.
