I've been looking to get a new japanese cruiser around 1300 cc to replace my machine that is getting old, but there doesnt seem to be any more being produced today. All brands seem to have stopped making them around 10 years ago or longer.
Right now theres only the Kawasaki Vulcan 900, the Honda rebel 1100, the Honda Fury 1300... and thats pretty much. After that it jumps right to the Vulcan 1700.
What happened to the japanese mid size cruisers? Nobody rides long distance on highways anymore?

Isn’t everything over a liter already pretty big? My understanding was everything <= 500 is „small“, up to around 900cc is mid and up to 1.3 is big.
Beyond that, ok, a BMW R18 is also big, but also not very relevant for most riders.
And I comfortably ride for hours on end on the highway with my 750cc Transalp.

It depends on the kind of bike, 1000 cc's in an adventure-touring or sport bike is huge, but in my opinion its kind of middle size for a cruiser.
I wasnt familiar with the adventure-touring Honda transalp 750, but I was checking it out and it has 61 kW / 8,500 rpm and a torque of 72 nm / 7,000 rpm.
On the other hand, the Vulcan 900 cc which is a cruiser with only 38 kW / 5,500 rpm of power and just a torque of 79 nm / 3,500 rpm.
So cruiser bikes are made with bigger engines that have less rpms, but more torque (higher acceleration and strength to carry more stuff) and sport and adv-touring bikes are made with smaller engines that have more rpms and more power (higher top speed).

I don't see tons of them on the roads. I know tons of driving schools have deals and special classes with Harley Davidsons and that they're popular (although I think economic pressure means people aren't buying new ones if they're not rich) for the large-sized class which is > 400cc in Japan.

Me included, Im looking for used bikes only but a model that is still being produced just to have peace of mind that I will be able to find spare parts in the long term.
