A/I stands for Autistici/Inventati.
A/I (Autistici/Inventati, pronounced [au’tistiʧi]-[iŋ’vɛntati], or [iŋvɛn’tati]) was born in 2001 from an encounter of individuals and collectives of the autonomous anticapitalist movement interested in technology and active in the digital rights struggle. We believe that this world is far from being the best world possible. We react by providing a platform and tools for digital self-defense addressing the need of free communication for activists and other individuals.
The day we discovered we had been designated a global terrorist organization, we promised that we would try to resist as long as this was possible, that we would not back down as long as we could see options to stand our ground.
We cannot engage in a fight or expose ourselves to manipulations that threaten the lives of these people and their loved ones, leaving them at the mercy of autocrats, fascists and agencies that take extra-legal courses of action.
What happened? First their main domain, autistici.org, was blocked globally by the US entity that provides the ".org" TLD. More recently their bank shut down their funds because of caving in to pressure that ultimately comes from the same source.

I also made some posts about this earlier. You can probably guess that I've been relying on their services, for a long time. And not even for particularly political reasons - they give email accounts to people who care for privacy and anonymity. Or used to.

This can happen to any ".org" domain, and possibly many other TLDs that are controled by entities that are prone to give into US bullying. Or your bank will cave to US pressure.

It's not surprising that Italian fascists happily comply with US fascists.
That said it would probably be the same case for anywhere in the EU at the moment as they are still 100% dependent on US banking infrastructure so not complying would mean you are locked out of all US dollar denominated trade. And with how antagonistic EU has been towards countries that have alternative banking structures they would basically be cooked.

The debank is not a surprise and efforts to avoid that should be standard practice for any anticapitalist endeavor.
The TLD block is honestly new and I don't know how one can avoid it.

It's open source and funded by the US government. I'd say it's extremely secure. The US military created it to be able to attack their adversaries anonymously. Their security depends on it. Their ability to avoid attribution depends on laundering their traffic with other non-military users.
Yes, Tor is extremely secure.
The vulnerabilities that take down Onion Services is almost always an attack on the clear net. Some misconfiguration of the server outside the scope of Tor.

So you are aware that it is the US government that is suppressing in this particular situation correct?
Like not disputing the tech of TOR it's just with the administration as is I don't think it should be something any FOSS privacy first project should be funding dependent on.
