Nearly a year after four people, including a former soldier of the Indian Army, were killed in police firing during the violence that followed protests in Leh on 24 September 2025 demanding statehood and constitutional protections for Ladakh, the judicial inquiry into the killings has yet to submit its findings. Their families are still waiting to know why lethal force was used before non-lethal means had been exhausted, who ordered the firing, and where the accountability lies.
