VM Spam thoughts; Nix, Guix

I made a (tangentially) related meme to my personal VM spam "hobby". I've been checking out distros and DEs and WMs on different virtual machines to see how things differ from one to the other. I think I'm passing over the other part of the normal distrobution curve where the distrobution doesn't matter much, it's just a package repo and file distrobutions, and they're based off a few central pillars anyway.

Anyway, I wanted to check out Nix as my next one to slop on and gawk at and, I checked wikipedia to see if it was a part of the whole fascist/crazy part of linux, and sure enough

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NixOS#Community_controversy

The letter contains arguments and allegations on Dolstra's leadership: control over the community, discrimination against marginalized communities, and quality impacts on Nix's development.

OK, let's try GUIX... well shit, I get 502 errors for that one.

Anyway, do you play around with VMs just for fun and trying stuff out? Did you stick to mainline OSes or fuck around with reallly specific opes?

Did you install and mess about with Nix from scratch or did you get a flake?config? from somewhere else and go for that. Do they work like debian blends or fedora spins?
