Students whose identities are affirmed at school report a greater sense of belonging and higher grades, and are more likely to participate fully in class, according to a report released Tuesday by GLISTEN and the Trevor Project.

This is true of all students, but many students (e.g cis) already get that affirmation, hence why it's important to support trans students especially.
I've had this experience as a professor for trans students, gay students, autistic students, you name it. The trick, aside from just being generally supportive and encouraging, is my classes have projects that are open ended so they will sometimes do it on their identity (e.g. I had a lesbian student do their social psych project on LGBT couples and I found out it was a major reason she sought grad school!).
It's funny that it even works in my statistics class. Their projects can be on anything as long as they have a statistical test. Last semester I even helped a student get participants for a survey on furry fandom! (Helps I had a friend into that). She was so grateful to have a part of her identity validated with respect and not ridicule.

Empathy must be empirically proven with science before institutions will listen.
Plot twist, they won't listen to science either.

What kind of imperceptive morons are they who need a report to tell them that being supportive helps people???

Government officials I assume.
But I’m giving them too much credit if I believe they would accept a studies result.

Do a few more similar articles and I'm expecting a 'New Report Suggests Trans Student Might Be People Too." But that might be too political for most outlets.

Yep! I went from academic probation in the closet to the deans list when I was out, supported, and in community (as well as having access to transition).
Dealing with dysphoria, especially when you know and are having ro actively deal with it is a fuckton of emotional work and it's extremely draining. I just didn't have the energy for both it and the amount of work my studies called for.
