Why I'm recommending this:
- juicy, juicy melodrama
- suffering builds characters
- a unique take on Ruby Rose
- some batshit insane writing that kept me glued to the page
This one is a Whiterose fic, far from "wholesome" but extremely compelling reading as the characters are deeply, deeply flawed and have to navigate their fucked-up lives and fucked-up relationships and fucked-up selves to try and make it through, hopefully together. Don't expect anyone to be a real hero in this, as even normally-good and righteous characters are portrayed as shitbags for the sake of the narrative. I get that may not be to everyone's cup of tea, but I implore you to give this one a chance, it has some compelling drama and has plenty of fun along the way.
At the very least check out the first chapter, it ends on a fun line and should give you a general idea the tone the fic is going for. It's also a Beacon-era rewrite, so you'll see the expected battle between Ruby and Torchwick and his goons during that first chapter.
But, uh, content warnings:
- some really graphic injuries
- a lot of swearing (Ruby does have Tourette's Syndrome)
- a lot of emotional abuse, usually done to Ruby and including by parental figures
- some substance use
- some non-explicit sex AND a bonus explicit side-chapter on AO3 (not in the main fic)
