On a very basic level if you look at the data centres and the absolute power of compute that has come online the last two years alone, that is genuinely something to worry about because we live in a very digital world and that kind of power could certainly disrupt that.
But at the core of all of this we must never forget lies incredibly imperfect and inefficient technology of generative large language models. The exact concept of which is effectively gambling enormous amount of energy that the next word will make sense to a human reader.
And now we have allowed that gambling and guessing process access to bash terminals. Sometimes we’ve we’ve not properly sandboxed it sometime we have given it root access. So a lot of things can go wrong but the one thing we can never assume is that what is going on is a conscious evil or deceitful energy or entity out to try and sabotage humanity, because can’t have any feelings or any intention.
It is a one IQ hyper masculine soldier sitting behind a 50 cal and shooting random directions hoping to hit something. That’s what we should be afraid of.
