No we can't, actually, they have to be a free agent during the window. So that we can't just bypass the window by having, say, Alvarez pay ATM his release clause and then sign for us, at which point we pay him his release clause in sign on fee.

So I looked it up. I didn’t realise how many windows there are. Instead of saying “the window slamming shut”, it should be “this particular window is closed for inward transfer but it is one of many and several are open for players to sneak out of” 🤣
