Findings on decline of species such as Arctic tern and turtle dove published alongside flyways pledge at Kenya summit
One in nine migratory birds are threatened with extinction and 45% of migratory species such as cuckoos, turtle doves and Arctic terns are in decline, according to a global report.
The migratory slender-billed curlew was officially declared extinct last year, the first global bird extinction in mainland Eurasia and Africa in recent centuries. Worldwide, seven migratory bird species have been confirmed or are suspected to have become extinct over the last 150 years.
The threats to migratory birds, which are overwhelmingly caused by humans and include the intensification of farming, unsustainable hunting, pollution, invasive species and global heating, were revealed in the State of the World's Birds report.

Bird flu is no small factor either. Or the collapse of the insect population, which is down 90 percent from the 90s according to multiple studies, and those were years back.
You can see it, if you lived in the 90s you may recall summer night drives where every inch of the car is covered in bug splatters, you may have had to use windshield washer fluid. Now just a few.
The mosquitoes and flies and parasites are doing better than ever.
